DescriptionThis reddish brown jar of monumental proportions with four handles on the shoulder was used for storage of tea leaves. Jars of this shape were popular during the Momoyama period. At the time simple rustic jars such as this one marked with subtle reddish brown "cross fire", interlacing, and a single spot of golden ash glaze on the brown surface were made to look totally spontaneous, yet were products of intentional manipulation to obtain desired results. On View
