DescriptionIn center foreground is a soldier in armor, wearing a tricorn hat with feather, holding a smoking pistol aimed at a turbaned man wielding a sword. The latter's white horse has fallen and a standing man appears to be stabbing (?) the still-seated rider. A dead turbaned figure lies in the center foreground. Loosely defined figures with swords and spears, surrounded by smoke, fills the left foreground. On the right side of the composition a second battle, painted in 'ghostly' white, takes place in the mid -ground. Mountains are visible on the horizon and a tree and rocks frame the right edge of the composition.
